The loss of a loved one can be devastating, and may be even more painful if the loss could have been prevented or was caused by the negligent acts of another person or company error. When a wrongful death occurs, families may choose to file a wrongful death lawsuit against the responsible party for the pain and suffering they have endured and any medical expenses that were incurred in trying to save the life of the family member.
After a woman's death in the Sacramento River recently, questions are rising over whether her car was functioning properly at the time. While the California Highway Patrol has not made any public announcement about what caused the fatal accident, the woman's family suspects that one of the car's systems may have failed, causing the vehicle to leave the road and crash into the river after driving through trees and a grassy embankment.
According to the family's new attorney, there is a possibility that either the car's brake system or acceleration system stopped working. While the 911 call the woman made did not indicate how she ended up in the river, she told her daughter the car wouldn't stop in an earlier call.
If it is determined that the brake system in the woman's car was faulty, the family may be able to hold the manufacturer of the car liable for her death. This would enable the family to ask for compensation to assist them as they deal with their loss. Any individuals who have suffered the loss of a loved one due to the negligence of another may want to contact an attorney quickly to preserve evidence and figure out the next step in the process.
